Yeaj, victory at a recent hackathon! Now we’re just looking for someone who wants to own the app and brand it to their specs.

Tonight I went to Klarna’s event called "How to create products customers love". Thought I would share the key points shared during the talk. Here it goes:Be the expert on the customersOver all people in the organization be the established expert on the customers. This require regular contact with the customers and meeting them weekly.Value triumphs everything elseValue is more important than usability and other areas. If something is truly valuable to users a concept may work very well even if the interface and features are poorly designed.
MVPValue is what creates a minimum viable product.  Don’t fall in love with a productMost of our ideas will fail so wait with falling in love with something until it’s proven. Fail fast / use the discovery methodThere are hundreds of techniques to validate ideas fast and with little resources. Use the simplest ways and methods you know of to see whether your idea makes any sense. Use your discoveries to build stuff with. Be agileHave the ability to push changes all the time without worrying so much about making mistakes. Always have a vision of where you want to go, that way you will always get up on the road in the event that something doesn’t go 100% as you planned. A few quotes shared:
"The company cares about what the leaders care about."
"If you have the right culture everything else comes naturally."
"A car company is a car company. A product company is an innovation company."
"Customers don’t want to be retrained. Do continues deployment (customer development comes as an extra bonus) and highlight the changes."
"Products are only as good as their product leaders."

PS, why you should master it

It has been a true blessing for me to learn how to design things in Photoshop. Before I have always been dependent on others to do the design for me but now I can do it all by myself if needed. I think anyone who works with digital projects such as creating apps, websites or selling things online should have a basic understanding for how to use photoshop.

The best way to get started in my opinion is to follow a tutorial. By googling or searching youtube you will find more tutorials than you can finish. Another option is to pay for a Lynda subscription and take their professionally made tutorials, if you finish all of them you will be better than most photoshop users.
Also never underestimate having someone experienced assist you as you design in Photoshop, chances are they will be able to help you find quicker and better ways of doing things.

Happy designing!

Designing something out of thin air

I am a believer that there are many thoughts that we cannot think but that we can produce as soon as we use the right medium. Just as Picasso would have been unable to portray his images using just words we are bound to the same rules and must use the right medium for our own creations.

In the world of interactive digital creations I believe it is more important than anywhere else to use an effective medium and experiment continuously in order to create the solutions we consider genius.

I have found sketching, storyboarding and storytelling to be extremely powerful for bringing new colorful and expressive solutions to life. Because I know we are so much more powerful with a pencil in our hands I would like to start by switching my own behavior to one where I sketch a lot more even though I don’t have any clear ideas. It doesn’t feel right to pick up a piece of paper and a pencil when you have a blank mind, this is where it is so important to remember that our minds are not constructed produce complex systems or ideas out of thin air.

I’m going away for a few days and will use the time partly to reconnect with people I’ve met at different events. It’s easy to forget that you know or have met people, I realized this when I went through a deck of my collected business cards. You never know what will come out of contact with people and that’s what makes it so exciting and worthwhile.

Yesterday Spotify hosted a really nice event that gathered iOS developers in Stockholm. It’s so nice to have these events to go to every now and then! Thanks @Spotify, it was inspiring! #stockholm #iosdev
